We now have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and highly-motivated
individual to join our team as an Employment Officer. We are looking
for someone who will bring enthusiasm and experience to supporting
adults with Down syndrome in their journey toward meaningful
employment. You will be part of a small but dedicated national team
focused on working with our members and their families, identifying
barriers across the lifespan, and helping to break them down by
providing information, training, and support. You will be able to
drive change at local and national levels, making Ireland more
accessible and equitable for people with Down syndrome.

JOB LOCATION: DSI National Office, Ballymount, Dublin **Apply on the

needs of participants)

REPORTING TO: CEO & Head of Employment, Down Syndrome Ireland

ROLE OBJECTIVES

* To assist the Head of Employment in the expansion of Down Syndrome
Ireland?s National Employment Programme, sourcing and securing job
placements for members nationwide by developing and maintaining
relationships with employment partners and providing direct support
and training to those seeking work.
* Assist in the facilitation of our ?Work Readiness Programme?,
which provides training for adults with Down syndrome, across
particular industries and equips them with skills specific to
employment.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

* Maintaining relationships with current employment partners by
offering ongoing support and engagement.
* Developing relationships with new employers nationwide by
initiating contact, helping to identify suitable roles, delivering
training and offering ongoing support once employment has commenced.
* Managing the recruitment and placement of members in employment by
designing job postings, completing introductory profiles, providing
pre-employment and interview training and monitoring job progression.
* Managing regional Employment Open Days by working with local DSI
branches and local business groups.
* Facilitating training within our Work Readiness Programme.
* Ensuring accurate maintenance of records and DSI?s membership
database.
* Engaging with DSI?s communications team to actively promote the
work of DSI and the achievements of adults with Down syndrome and with
DSI?s fundraising team to secure funding for future programmes.
* Working professionally and collaboratively with the established
Employment Team in National Office
* Work professionally, effectively and sensitively with key
stakeholders to ensure that all participants are safe, feel safe and
are listened to with any concerns.
* Keep up to date on policies and programmes of relevance to the
employment of adults with Down syndrome.
* Assist with the completion of necessary paperwork incl.
evaluations, reports & documentation. Develop and maintain robust
record keeping procedures in line with relevant data protection and
confidentiality requirements.
* Commit to ongoing professional development.
* Conduct any other duties in line with the main objective set out
above.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

* Excellent organisation and communication skills, verbal and written
* A professional background in supporting adults with disabilities
and/or liaising with employers to secure employment opportunities
* Proven ability to design and deliver training to groups
* An awareness of the ethos of Down Syndrome Ireland and a belief in
the rights of people with Down syndrome to be included in society in a
meaningful way
* An appreciation of the barriers to employment for our members and
an understanding of suitable workplace accommodations for people with
Down syndrome
* A wider awareness of disability, specifically Down syndrome,
including Irish disability legislation, and an understanding of
working towards a choice based independent life for individuals with
Down syndrome
* An understanding of post-school options, traditional (HSE day
services) and more recent (further education and employment)
* An ability to work with families to problem solve, research,
communicate and advocate for adults with Down syndrome
* Interpersonal skills and flexibility to work effectively as part
of DSI?s Member Support Team, wider national team and nationwide
branch network
* Strong team working skills & ability to work on own initiative

Possess a full clean driving licence & have access to a car

* Garda vetting for the role is mandatory.
